Introduction

YouTube has terabtyes of videos you can watch to help you learn animal breeding. You can learn anywhere from basic mathematics that will help you including linear algebra and calculus to advanced topics such as mixed models. The only issue is that new students don’t know where to start, I’d like to guide students learning so they don’t get stuck in rabbit holes.

Linear Algebra

Why should I learn linear algebra? Linear algebra is the foundation of much of statistics and animal breeding. Almost everything from BLUP to response to selection and optimum contribution selection can be framed with linear (matrix) algebra.
